Vera was taken to the hospital following the fight on Saturday as a precautionary measure due to potential head and facial injuries, as reported by UFC.

O’Malley delivered 230 significant strikes, the third highest in a UFC title fight and the most in a UFC bantamweight title fight, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Vera, on the other hand, landed 89 significant strikes.

Despite Vera’s resilience, as he shares the record with heavyweight champion Jon Jones for the most fights (23) in UFC history without being finished, O’Malley dominated every round on the scorecards, showcasing his skills.

“He displayed a masterclass performance, and I doubt anyone can put away Chito Vera,” stated UFC CEO Dana White during the postfight press conference.

O’Malley expressed disappointment in not being able to secure a knockout victory.

“I just can’t shake off the feeling of not finishing the fight,” he mentioned.

The atmosphere at Kaseya Center was divided among the crowd. A significant number of passionate supporters from Vera’s home country of Ecuador flocked to Miami this week, filling the streets with their songs and chants on Saturday afternoon before the event commenced. In 2020, O’Malley suffered a leg injury during a fight against Vera, resulting in a loss. Despite the defeat being recorded, O’Malley vehemently denies his defeat and maintains that he remains undefeated.

“I believe we can all agree that I am still undefeated,” O’Malley confidently stated.

Following the fight, O’Malley suggested that White arrange a private jet for him to travel to Spain for a superfight against the new UFC featherweight champion, Ilia Topuria. Additionally, O’Malley expressed his willingness to face off against the top bantamweight contender, Merab Dvalishvili.

“If you all want to witness me knocking out Merab, I’m more than willing to do so,” O’Malley declared.

ESPN had O’Malley, 29, ranked as the 10th best pound-for-pound MMA fighter when he entered the competition. In the bantamweight division, O’Malley held the top spot while Vera was ranked 8th.

O’Malley, with a record of 18-1, 1 NC, has remained undefeated in his last seven fights, excluding the loss to Vera. Hailing from Montana but residing and training in Arizona, he claimed the title by delivering a knockout blow to Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292 in August.

Vera, with a record of 23-9-1, had won five out of his last six fights leading up to the contest. The Ecuadorian fighter, who lives and trains in Southern California, recently secured a unanimous decision victory over Pedro Munhoz at UFC 292. At 31 years old, Vera holds the record for the most finishes (10) in UFC bantamweight history.

Following the fight, Vera expressed his determination, stating, “I’ll be back. I’ll be champion one day.”

Sean O’Malley is keen on facing Ilia Topuria in his upcoming UFC bout.

In terms of O’Malley’s next move, there appears to be a clear choice. Merab Dvalishvili, who has achieved 10 consecutive victories, including wins against former champions Petr Yan and Henry Cejudo, was present at UFC 299. Opting for someone other than O’Malley would be a remarkable decision.

O’Malley expressed his desire to face another opponent, specifically the newly crowned featherweight champion Ilia Topuria.

“Dana, arrange a flight to Spain for me. I’m coming for Ilia Topuria,” O’Malley declared. “Ilia excites me. Moving up a weight class excites me. However, I’m open to anything. Whether it’s knocking out Merab or facing Ilia, I’m ready for an exciting fight for the fans.”
