Nikki Haley found herself unexpectedly accountable for security oversights on January 6th, showcasing a bewildering mix-up with Nancy Pelosi, as attributed by Trump.
During a recent rally speech, former President Donald Trump seemed to have mistakenly mixed up former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley.
Trump was discussing the crowd size at his rally in Concord, New Hampshire, and claimed that the press fails to report on Haley’s smaller crowds. However, he then shifted his focus to the Capitol riot and oddly placed blame on Haley for security lapses on that day.
Trump’s statement suggested that all the information and evidence related to the January 6 incident had been deleted and destroyed, and he implied that Haley was responsible for security. He mentioned offering her 10,000 people, including soldiers and National Guards, but claimed that she turned it down.
Trump criticized the media for being dishonest and avoiding discussions about these matters. The crowd appeared to react with silence as he made this blunder. President Joe Biden’s campaign wasted no time in mocking Trump for his confusion, highlighting the mix-up between Pelosi and Haley and pointing out that Haley was indeed in charge on January 6, a topic they believe Trump and his supporters do not want to address.
Trump made a false statement regarding his request for 10,000 National Guard troops to secure the Capitol on January 6, 2021, a claim that has been debunked. He falsely accused Pelosi, who was House Speaker at the time, of declining the offer without any evidence to support his claim.
By 2021, Haley had already resigned from her position as ambassador to the United Nations and was not actively involved in politics during the Capitol riot.
Trump’s recent remarks have raised concerns about his cognitive abilities, as he has repeatedly confused President Joe Biden with former President Barack Obama during his campaign events. Most recently, he made this mix-up while speaking to Fox News on Thursday night, referring to Obama as if he were still in office.
In November, Trump defended these mistakes by stating that he sarcastically inserted the name Obama for Biden to suggest that others may have a significant influence on running the country. He also claimed to have recently performed exceptionally well on a cognitive test.
As the primary race intensifies, Trump has increased his criticisms of former South Carolina Gov. Haley. In response, Haley has been focusing on Trump’s age, stating that the majority of Americans do not want two 80-year-olds running for president.
