Texans vs Ravens: The Texans are gearing up for their fifth divisional game in franchise history, and interestingly enough, it’s taking place in Baltimore, where the season began. Let’s delve into some significant numbers for this matchup between Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
As the Texans prepare for their fifth divisional game in franchise history, it’s worth mentioning that all four of their previous divisional round playoff games were played on the road, just like this one in Baltimore. Surprisingly, they have consistently found themselves trailing by four points at halftime in each of those four games.
Regarding recent playoff performances, since 2019, the Baltimore Ravens have won one playoff game, while the Houston Texans have won two in the same time frame.
In the last six games, Lamar Jackson (14) and C.J. Stroud (9) have combined for an impressive total of 23 touchdown passes.
Justin Madubuike, the standout defensive lineman for the Ravens and former Texas A&M star, showcased his skills by leading the team in sacks from the interior position. He made an impact right from the start, recording one sack in the opening game against the Texans.
In the opening game, the Texans’ pass rush proved to be effective against Lamar Jackson, as they managed to sack him four times throughout the day. Notably, Jonathan Greenard and Will Anderson both contributed to this effort, with Anderson securing his first career sack.
The Texans’ defense also deserves credit for holding the Ravens to their lowest offensive output of the entire season. This achievement becomes even more impressive when considering that the Ravens were implementing a new offense under the guidance of OC Todd Monken.
Throughout the regular season, the Ravens displayed their offensive prowess by averaging nearly 30 points per game. Additionally, they excelled in rushing offense and scoring defense, leading the league in both categories. Remarkably, only the 1985 Bears and the undefeated 1972 Dolphins, who lost just one game combined in their respective seasons, have achieved such a feat. In contrast, the Ravens lost four games during the 2023 season, and the Texans emerged victorious against all three of those teams (PIT, CLE & IND).
C.J Stroud leads the league in deep throws (20+ air yards) with an impressive 60% completion rate. Not only that, but he also tops the charts in passing TD/INT on deep throws and boasts a remarkable 143.8 passer rating on such throws, which is unmatched in the league.
Stroud has showcased his skills by delivering 75+ yard touchdown passes in back-to-back weeks. He kicked off the game against Indy with a stunning connection to Nico Collins, followed by Brevin Jordan’s 76-yard catch-and-sprint TD against Cleveland.
Stroud’s performance against the top-ranked Cleveland defense last week was nothing short of exceptional, earning him a near-perfect rating of 157.2. In the history of the NFL, rookie starters facing #1 ranked defenses in playoff games have only managed an overall passer rating of 40.7.
The Texans are expected to have up to six different starters in this matchup compared to their previous game against the Ravens. Notably, Derek Barnett, Myjai Sanders, Kareem Jackson, and Cam Johnston are not even included in this count.
On the other hand, the Ravens anticipate having two different starters compared to their first week. Pro Bowl CB Marlon Humphrey, who missed the initial game due to injury, will also be absent in this matchup. Additionally, Pro Bowl TE Mark Andrews is questionable after missing the season opener.
Alright, I’m filled with excitement, making it difficult to stay still and continue writing. So, I’ll wrap it up here. Can’t wait for Saturday – see you all then!
