SNL Comeback: Following a shortened 2022-23 season, Saturday Night Live made a slightly delayed return to commence its 2023-24 run.
The impact of the writers strike was felt at both the conclusion of the previous season and the commencement of season 49.
However, the conclusion of the labor action on September 25 resulted in SNL starting in mid-October, as opposed to its usual late September or early October premiere.
Notably, former castmember Pete Davidson took on the role of host for the inaugural episode. It is worth mentioning that the cast operates under a separate SAG-AFTRA contract, which exempts them from the ongoing strike faced by other actors, allowing them to perform without crossing picket lines.
The cast of the show remains unchanged from last season, except for James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman who have been promoted from featured players to repertory players. Additionally, Chloe Troast has joined the cast as a featured player.
The Hollywood Reporter has provided an updated guide to the hosts and musical guests for season 49 of SNL.
On December 16, it was announced that Jacob Elordi will be hosting the first episode of the sketch comedy show in 2024. He will be accompanied by musical guest Renée Rapp.
Kate McKinnon, an SNL alum, will be returning to the show as a first-time host for the December 16 episode, which will be the final show before the holiday break. The musical guest for that episode will be Billie Eilish. Prior to that, Emma Stone hosted the December 2 show for the fifth time, with musical guest Noah Kahan. On December 9, Adam Driver hosted for the fourth time, with musical guest Olivia Rodrigo.
Jacob Elordi, known for his role in Saltburn, will be making his SNL debut on January 20. He will be joined by musical guest Renée Rapp, who is also known for her role in Mean Girls. Dakota Johnson and Justin Timberlake are scheduled to appear on the January 27 show.
