After leading the team to their first NFC North title in three decades and securing two victories at home, the chants of ‘Jar-red Goff, Jar-ed Goff’ echoed throughout Michigan, resonating even in unexpected places like Red Wings games and the Detroit Opera House.
Reflecting on the past few weeks, Goff expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support from the fans. He acknowledged that the playoffs had brought about a sense of unity and admiration not only for himself but for the entire team.
Despite the disappointment of their loss in the NFC Championship Game, Goff recognized the significance of the fans’ response and considered it a truly special experience.
It is an experience that will always remain etched in my memory, without a doubt. Unfortunately, the conclusion of the season did not unfold as we had anticipated. The disappointment from last night still lingers. However, the atmosphere during those two home games in the playoffs was truly extraordinary and filled with excitement. It was an absolute delight to be a part of such an electrifying environment.
Goff’s performance in the loss against the 49ers was exceptional, and it would be unfair to blame him for the Lions not making it to their first Super Bowl in franchise history. Without Jared Goff’s consistent play throughout the season, especially in the playoffs, Detroit wouldn’t have come so close to reaching the Super Bowl.
With one year remaining on his contract, there is a possibility that the team will approach Goff and his representatives during the offseason to discuss a well-deserved raise and contract extension. When asked about his future in Detroit, Goff expressed his strong desire to stay with the team.
“I don’t have control over my future,” he stated. “But I genuinely have a deep affection for this place. As time progresses, we’ll see what unfolds. However, I genuinely love this place, Dan Campbell, the coaching staff, and all my teammates.”
Gaining the trust and acceptance of not only his coaches and teammates, but also a hard-working city like Detroit, is no easy feat. It requires determination, resilience, and talent. Throughout the entire season, Goff showcased these qualities.
For two consecutive years, Jared has performed at a Pro Bowl level, solidifying his position as the team’s starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.
Expressing his fondness for the city and his teammates, Jared stated, “I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of my time here and would be thrilled to continue. I have a great relationship with Dan and the players. While it would be fantastic to receive a contract extension, that decision is not within my control.”
