Additionally, the product is also available for purchase on apple.com and the Apple Store app.
With its seamless integration of digital content into the physical world, Apple Vision Pro delivers powerful spatial experiences through its visionOS. Users can effortlessly control this cutting-edge device using their eyes, hands, and voice, making it the most natural and intuitive interface. Furthermore, the all-new App Store provides users with access to over 1 million compatible apps across iOS and iPadOS. Moreover, there are more than 600 new experiences specifically designed to take full advantage of the unique capabilities of Vision Pro.
On February 2nd, I happened to be present at a mall where Apple had just launched their highly anticipated augmented reality headset, the Vision Pro. While browsing through an Apple store, I came across a display showcasing these goggles and decided to try them on. However, I soon discovered that a sign-up was required for an actual demonstration. Luckily, there was an immediate opening available, so I eagerly seized the opportunity. Now, let me provide you with a detailed review of my experience.
For those familiar with Meta Quest, the Vision Pro bears a striking resemblance, albeit with Apple’s signature touch of elegance. The goggles are impeccably packaged, featuring a fabric mask that not only protects them but also adds a touch of sophistication. The straps are adorned with comfortable fabric, ensuring a pleasant fit. Upon removing the fabric mask, the goggles reveal a sleek, glass-like appearance.
Prior to wearing the Vision Pro, Apple requires users to complete a brief questionnaire to ensure their eyes are suitable for utilizing the device. Currently, the Vision Pro is not compatible with eyeglasses, but there are reports indicating that prescription lenses can be obtained at an additional cost.
After successfully completing the quiz, an Apple specialist guided me to a table, where I was seated and instructed to gaze into an iPhone for a facial and ocular scan. This procedure lasted a few minutes and fine-tuned the goggles to match my individual facial features and eye specifications.
I was then instructed on the proper way to don the goggles and adjust them to my desired level of comfort. The device does have a slightly heavy feel to it, but I still found it quite comfortable. Once the goggles were on, I had to “calibrate” my eyes by focusing on different dots displayed on the screen and using my fingers to interact with them.
In contrast to the Meta Quest, there are no hand controllers involved. All the actions are performed solely by your eyes and fingers. It may take some practice to master this coordination, but once you do, it’s truly amazing to be able to use just your eyes and fingers for computing.
Following that, the subsequent event on the agenda was the primary demonstration, and it truly was an impressive display!
The Apple specialist guided me through the “home page,” which bore a striking resemblance to the layout of my Mac and iPhone… it felt familiar. However, this time it was projected onto a massive screen, while the rest of the store remained visible in the background.
By simply pinching and moving my eyes, I was able to navigate to the Photo folder. Scrolling was as easy as swiping my fingers left or right, and a pinch would bring up the desired photo. The most captivating ones were the 3D photos and videos captured with the Vision Pro during a child’s birthday party. It felt as though I was actually seated at the table with the family, fully immersed in the experience. It almost compelled me to join in and sing “Happy Birthday” along with them!
In addition to that, remarkable panoramic photographs captured using an iPhone, along with immersive 3D videos, were showcased once again through the simple gesture of pinching with your fingers. In one instance, a daring woman is depicted walking on a tightrope above a precipice, gazing directly at you. The level of realism is truly extraordinary, making you feel as if you are actually present in that moment. If a chilling breeze had swept over me, the experience would have been even more astonishing.
Furthermore, other captivating features presented were movies, where you have the ability to expand the screen to the size of an IMAX theater. In these instances, you have the option to “conceal” the surroundings, leaving only the movie screen visible to your eyes.
The device also supports web browsing and various office tasks, which can be conveniently accessed through scrolling. Although the demo showcased the device placed on a table, it is designed to be used while sitting. However, if needed, it can also be attached to the user’s body.
This demonstration highlighted the remarkable advancements in technology, which are being showcased nationwide. It is evident that early adopters will eagerly purchase this device, as observed by a gentleman sitting across from me. However, in order to appeal to a wider audience, the price will need to decrease. On the day of its release, the device was priced at $3499.
Although Apple may have arrived late to the augmented reality scene, the Vision Pro has the potential to revolutionize the industry. Currently, it excels in providing entertainment and preserving cherished family moments.
However, wearing it throughout the entire workday as an office workstation may not be ideal due to its bulky and heavy design.
Nonetheless, Zoom has already developed an app that promises to disrupt the office Zoom environment with the help of Vision Pro. If the experience is anything like attending a mesmerizing 3D birthday party, it is bound to be an exhilarating journey.
Apple has released a collection of instructional videos on YouTube, demonstrating various techniques and procedures.
Make sure to explore all of those options as well!
